“Our children need to know that they are precious in the sunshine and in the rain.”
“When you connect to the heart of a child, everything is possible.”
– Dr. Karyn Purvis
My name is Brenquetta (Bre) Carr. I am a proud native of Auburn, Al currently residing in Birmingham, AL.
I am a 2006 graduate of Auburn High School. I attended the University of Alabama at Birmingham and obtained two bachelor’s degrees in psychology and criminal justice in 2011. I also obtained a master’s degree in clinical mental health counseling in 2014.
I am currently a Licensed Professional Counselor and Behavioral Health Advisor, with over 10 years of experience working with adolescents, couples and families in a number of behavioral health settings. My focus is on helping individuals to create their best selves.
I am trained in cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) and positive psychotherapy (PPT). CBT treats problems and boosts happiness by modifying dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts. PPT addresses strengths, resources, values and hopes, in addition to symptoms, weaknesses, risks and regrets, for a more balanced understanding of the human experience.
I am also a TBRI® Practitioner. TBRI® is an attachment-based, trauma-informed intervention designed to meet the complex needs of vulnerable children. TBRI® uses empowering principles to address physical needs, connecting principles for attachment needs, and correcting principles to disarm fear-based behaviors. The heartbeat of TBRI® is connection.
When working with children, adolescents and other vulnerable populations, I believe that you have to see the need behind the behavior.  We do this by asking ourselves, what do our children need? Optimal growth and development thrives from connectedness, trust-based and authentic relationships.
As a mentor with A2,  it  is important to have compassion and understanding because this helps us to see the need. Seeing the need is changing our frame of reference in order to meet the adolescents where they are holistically. I’m looking forward to being a resource for not only the children/adolescents we serve but for the communities they will thrive in.
